Package Insert Benchmarks 2026: Scan Rates, Redemption and ROAS
Package inserts are one of the few ad channels that physically arrive inside a customer's home. But what does "good" actually look like?
Scan rates
Across insert campaigns with a clear incentive, 1.5–4% of shipped cards get scanned within 30 days. Cards with a strong single offer ("15% off, today only") outperform multi-offer cards by roughly 2×. Placement on top of the packing slip — not at the bottom of the box — matters more than design polish.
Redemption
Of customers who scan, 8–20% redeem the discount code. The gap is almost entirely explained by offer strength and landing page friction. This is why BoxShare generates Shopify auto-apply QR links: every removed checkout step compounds.
ROAS
With base pricing of $0.08–$0.25 per shipment plus 5–15% revenue share, well-matched campaigns (supplement brand in a beauty box, pet brand in a pet box) routinely clear 3–5× ROAS. Poorly matched campaigns struggle to clear 1× — which is exactly why audience matching and category exclusions exist.
The takeaway
Treat inserts like performance media, not print. Measure scans → redemptions → orders, cut losing placements fast, and scale the matches that convert.
